Pizza and Gelato

Over a year ago, we cut dairy and soy out of Maia's diet.  We found it was causing her reflux (or at the very least, making it worse) and she was MUCH healthier without it.  (You can read about it HERE.)  Now that she's over a year old, we are gradually re-introducing dairy to see if she has an allergy.  Her doctor recommended two week trials starting with cooked cheese.  She did fine and we moved on to two weeks of cheese.

She is now in love with cheese and asks for it constantly!  She signs "cheese" and tries to say it.  So far she can only say the "ch" sound, not the entire word.  It's adorable!!

Anyway, the next step was yogurt.  She doesn't like it plain (or with fruit in it) so we make her smoothies.  She thinks they're great!!  She's had a smoothie each morning or afternoon for about a week.  We're almost ready to take the next step and try whole milk!

Now that we know she can have cheese and most milk products, we let her try pizza.  I think it's safe to say she's her mother's daughter...Maia LOVES it!!

We went to our favorite Italian restaurant last Friday night for pizza.  Here in Europe, pizza is always individual.  Each person orders their own pizza.  My favorite is margherita - just plain cheese!  Boy is it yummy!

This restaurant serves a local beer called Fuchsbeck, which features a red fox (Fuchs is the German word for 'fox').  Maia doesn't know a sign or word for fox, so she calls it "Meow Meow," just like we call our cat.  In the video you hear her say it.  Every time she sees the fox she says it!  Every. single. time.

Maia was unusually grumpy - you can see from the array of toys and food she had before our meal had even started!  Cereal, water, and a toy cell phone is this picture:

And a fruit pack in this picture!

One of our favorite things about living in Germany is how dog-friendly it is!  Dogs are allowed almost everywhere!  We brought our two with us to dinner.  They love going out with us!!  They're really well behaved in public and have so much fun!!

This is Inmate relaxing next to me while we ate.  We just had him shaved because he's so hairy!!  We generally shave him about three times a year.  He's so much happier and gets lots of love from us.  When his hair is long, it's annoying to pet him because he sheds so much.  When it's short, he can get lots and lots of love without shedding a pound of fur all over us!

And this is Budva.  She was laying next to my husband.  She's such a Daddy's Girl!!

Our dogs have been to so many different places!  Inmate's ridden all types of public transportation: bus, tram, subway, train, ferry, even a plane!  Budva's a lot younger so she's not as well traveled.  But both have been to lots of restaurants and stores.  They love shopping!

Anyway, after dinner we walked down the street to get gelato.  I always get chocolate.  Always.

But this time, I chose lemon.  It was the only non-dairy gelato they had.  (It's still pretty early in the season. They only had half their summer selection.)  It was yummy!  Maia thought so too!  She especially loved this little gelato spoon.  It's just her size!

What a great night out together!  We had a delicious dinner and yummy dessert in a scenic, small European town.  This is the type of night we'll always look back on and remember about our time overseas.
