Trip to the Nuremberg Zoo

Last Sunday we decided to go to the Nuremberg Zoo.  It was a gorgeous day for Maia's 1st trip to the Zoo!

Here she is watching the Baboons with her Daddy...

The Rhino was hiding in his little pool.  Maia couldn't see him because he was too camouflaged.

The camels were great - and easy to spot!

I think her favorite part of the day might have been the petting zoo.  This kid is FEARLESS!!  She was one of the smallest ones wandering around but she kept walking right up to the goats to pet them!

Generally the goats harass the kids, but I think it was the other way around!

I guess when you live with a crazy dog at home, a silly goat is nothing to be afraid of!

I think they were happy to see us go...

Our next stop was the sea lions.  They were barking and rolling around on the rocks!

The otters were putting on a show for us too!  It was fun to watch them play.

The zebra was so cute.  I love how his mane continues the stripes from his neck.

Maia loved sitting on her Daddy's shoulders for part of our day.

Of course, she had to get down and do something physically active as well.  She's a very busy girl!

As we were leaving we stopped to get a pretzel.

Maia LOVES pretzels just like her Mommy!  We shared this one.  Look how huge it is!!

Very content eating her pretzel as we walk back to the car!

We decided to stop in the city just to wander around and grab a Starbucks.  The zoo is actually only about 5km from the city center (less than 3 miles) so it's very close.

When we got there we realized the stores were open!!  Shopping on Sundays is generally illegal in Germany.  Each town is permitted two days a year where they can open their stores.  Apparently we hit Nurnberg on a shopping Sunday!  It was great!

Here's Maia waiting for us to get our coffee.  By this time she'd been awake since 9am (it was already almost 4pm!) and she was getting pretty annoyed.  She fell asleep only a few minutes later though and was able to take an hour nap as we walked.

We had such a great day!  It was nice to have my husband home again.  (He'd been gone for the entire month of March for work.)  We were able to have a relaxing family day on Sunday with a great friend!  The gorgeous weather made it even more perfect!
