Maia was up and ready to go this morning! She was stylin' in her favorite Gap outfit from Auntie Kristie. (We gotta get good use out of her clothes! We can finally say she's "growing like a weed!")
After a relaxing afternoon, we headed to Weiden for their 76th Annual Frühlingsfest. It's their spring carnival and this was the third year that we've gone.
(Of course, the other two years we spent some time in the beer tent...but this year was a
little different!)
Take a look at the carousel. Do you notice anything unusual about it?
Take a closer look...
REAL PONIES!?!??! Seriously, I was tempted to pay for a ride!! :) What kid would pass up the opportunity to ride on real ponies? Could you imagine the liability issues if you were to do this in the States?
They have lots of rides, games, and vendors. They always have a least a couple vendors selling candied nuts. My hands-down favorite is candied cashews. I have a hard time resisting them at a fest...and tonight was no exception! I stopped to get my paper cone full of candied cashew goodness when I saw the gingerbread hearts. Traditionally, these decorated hearts have sweet sayings on them and are given to girlfriends, wives, and children. Romas and I thought that Maia should have one to mark her first official fest (Oktoberfest in-utero doesn't count!) and we found the most perfect one:
Süsse Maus.
Maus is a term of endearment in German. It literally means "mouse." The pediatrician in
the hospital called Maia "Sport Maus" because she was so strong at three days old!
We thought the heart would be perfect for Maia...but we're not sure what she thinks about
it yet. She fell asleep while I was paying for it!
We documented the purchase anyway! Generally you wear the heart around your neck,
but in the case of a very sleep Maia...you can just prop it up and snap your photo! :)
Frühlingsfest was a big hit! Maia loved the colors and sounds and the hundreds of people
wandering around. Fests can be exhausting!
I think Frühlingsfest was a great way to kick off Fest season here in Germany. I think Maia
would agree...if she was awake!
