Today is Maia's 1st Birthday!
It's hard to believe an entire year has passed already. We had a rough start and after issues with acid reflux and aspiration, it feels great to say Maia is doing wonderful! She no longer takes PrevAcid for her reflux and after getting a good report at Landstuhl, no longer needs thickened liquids. YAY! Our last remaining hurdle is figuring out if she still has sensitivities to dairy and soy. We'll start slowly reintroducing them to her over the next few months. Hopefully her intolerance was just a result of her immature immune system. If not, we're already in the habit of reading labels. It won't be easy to avoid dairy and soy for a lifetime, but it certainly won't be the end of the world. We'll have to wait and see!
Tonight, Romas, Maia, and I will spend time together celebrating. We have such a beautiful little girl who makes us smile and laugh each and every day. She's learned so much already and seems to revel in her ability to make people laugh. She has an incredible personality and has brought so much joy to us and her extended family and friends over the past year.
Maia is...
a joker - always making faces and trying to get a laugh.
a free spirit - dancing, laughing, and cheering all day.
a social butterfly - never missing an opportunity to smile and wave!
a sweetheart - giving her mommy and daddy lots of hugs! She snuggles her stuffed animals and always pats her doggies as she passes by.
Happy Birthday, Little Bee.
We love you!
