Mmmm…Gelato!

Have you ever had gelato?  It's becoming trendy in the States, but here it's everywhere.  They don't really eat ice cream in Europe, they eat gelato instead.

My favorite thing to do on a beautiful fall day is wander through town and get a gelato.  (Ok, honestly, I love wandering through town eating gelato any day!)  I spend all spring using the excuse: "I haven't had gelato in months!"  Then, I move right into my summer excuse: "It's such a beautiful night!"  And that leads to my current (fall) excuse: "But this could be my last gelato of the season!"  All of the gelato shops I've seen in Germany are owned by Italians who go back to Italy during the winter months.  They close in the end of October or beginning of November, when the weather here starts to get bad.

It's actually been incredibly nice lately, so I'm making good use of my "But this could be my last gelato of the season!" excuse.  I need to get my fix before they lock their doors until April!

This was my view as I sat and ate my yummy chocolate gelato.  Not bad, huh?  We're still in awe of how incredibly old these towns are.  Most were founded before Columbus even sailed to North America!

The local shop has these incredibly huge cones lately.  I almost always get chocolate gelato.  It's my favorite!

Of course we had our favorite four-legged friends with us.  Here is Budva (a.k.a. Dingo).  Doesn't she have the biggest ears you've ever seen?

And this is Inmate.

The Bee was there, too!  Unfortunately, she's not allowed to have any gelato yet.  It's so sad that we can't share.  The doctors want us to wait until after her first birthday before we start trying to re-introduce dairy and soy.  So, at least for now, she can't share with us.  She always has a great time people-watching with us, though!

Have you ever had gelato?  Is there a shop nearby your home?
