Horses!

It starts early.  Every little girl asks her parents at one time or another for a pony.

I am sure that I asked more than a few times for a four-hooved friend.  And I'm sure that Maia will ask plenty of times for one, as well.

The problem is: I'm not sure I'll be able to say no!

I started riding sometime around 8 years old.  I rode for fun - taking lessons each weekend.  Then, a friend got a horse.  Star arrived when I was in 9th grade and that's when I started riding.  A lot!

Kelly always invited me to ride him and even picked me up 20 minutes out of her way just so we could go together!  We rode a TON and had an absolute blast.

I started working to afford more lessons and, by this time, horse shows.  Kelly and I could be found at the barn at all hours and in all weather.  Riding was just so addictive.  We even rode for our college Equestrian Teams.

Neither of us rides much anymore.  Sadly, I've actually only ridden twice in the past ten years.  But like all addictions, it never leaves you.  Certain things can trigger my desire to ride - like a crisp, fall day - it makes me think of all those days Kelly and I spent together at the barn.

Sometimes I wonder if Maia will want to ride too.

But I'm pretty sure that between Kelly and me...Maia won't stand a chance!  She'll be out there in her boots and breeches, covered in dust and horse slobber with a huge smile on her face.

How do I know?

Because Aunt Kelly already bought Maia an adorable horsey shirt....

And a pony that she LOVES!!

Thanks Aunt Kelly!  Miss you!!
