Today was the 1st Annual 5k Run/Walk To Remember in Vilseck. The walk was sponsored by Graf ACS (Army Community Service). We walked today in memory of the fallen soldiers from the 2nd Stryker Calvary Regiment, stationed in Vilseck, Germany.
Here are the "hunden" ready for their walk!!
And of course, Miss Maia Bee herself, in her faux fur with Walter.
The organizers were expecting anywhere from 100-200 people this morning. But when the walk started at 9am, they already had almost 600 people registered! It was amazing to see the community showing support for each other and for their fallen soldiers. You can see the picture below how crowded the sidewalk was!
Evenly spaced throughout the route were small white signs. Each sign had a name printed on it. These signs were in memory of soldiers who died this past year during their deployment to Afghanistan.
Luckily the deployment is almost over - more and more soldiers are returning home each day and families are being reunited. American flags line the main road on post, along with MANY Welcome Home signs like the ones in the picture below:
Maia probably couldn't tell you much about her 1st organized 5k...she slept through almost the entire walk! But afterwards we stopped at the commissary for a sandwich and she was, as always, a social butterfly. Here she is in her Daddy's arms as she watches her doggies (who were both pretty tired after their walk!)
Were you wondering what our official time was? Let's put it this way...
SLOWEST.
5k.
EVER.
Can you read the digital clock? Hopefully not!
(Oh well, I guess that's what happens when you walk with a baby and two dogs!)
